Wagga Wagga’s Relay for Life committee is gearing up for another powerful community gathering as the city prepares to unite against cancer.
With just one month to go until the event on Saturday 11 October from 2 to 8 pm at Wagga’s Riverside Precinct, committee chairman Alan Pottie said the 2025 Relay for Life event would continue to build on last year’s successful format change.
“We’re thrilled to be heading into our second year with the Saturday afternoon format,” Mr Pottie said.
“This timing has proven perfect for busy families and working people who want to be part of something meaningful but need an event that fits their lifestyle. The relaxed format allows everyone to participate without the overnight commitment – drop in for a particular event, spend an hour or two or the full six hours with us.”
The streamlined event maintains all the heart of traditional Relay activities, including the survivors and carers recognition, opening ceremony and moving hope ceremony, while creating space for live entertainment, family activities and community connection.
“Relay for Life remains one of our community’s most important events,” Mr Pottie said.
“It celebrates cancer survivorship, honours those we’ve lost and raises vital funds for lifesaving research and support services. Every person who joins us, every dollar raised, makes a real difference in the fight against cancer.”
Teams and individuals interested in participating are encouraged to attend a drop-in information session this Saturday 13 September, from 10 am to noon at the Marketplace Wagga, where committee volunteers will be available to answer questions and help with registrations.
“Whether you’re a regular Relay family or completely new to the event, we’d love to see you on Saturday,” Mr Pottie said.
“Come down to learn more, register a team or simply find out how you can be part of this incredible community effort.”
The committee will be visible throughout the community over the coming weeks, building excitement and encouraging participation in the lead-up to October’s event.
“Together, we’re stronger than cancer,” Mr Pottie said.
“Every step taken, every dollar raised, brings us closer to a world where no one has to face cancer alone.”
Registration and event information is available on the event’s website or by joining the Wagga Wagga Relay for Life Facebook group on social media.
