For years, Renee Jones and her popular LEGO building group, Brick Envy, were dreaming of building their own LEGO exhibition in Wagga.
Inspired by the likes of LEGO Masters and the incredible builds seen across the world, Renee decided to make her dream a reality and in doing so constructed the Bidgee Bricks Exhibition.
Officially taking place on 23 and 24 August, the exhibition is set to feature builders from across the country – including a former contestant from season three of LEGO Masters – and prizes from Brick Man himself.
“It’s only two weeks away,” Renee said with nervous excitement.
“It’s been really exciting to have all these great builders and attractions agree to come to Wagga for the exhibition, especially Gabby from season three of LEGO Masters.
“I just reached out to her and explained how many people out in the country really enjoy building and creating things with LEGO and how we can miss out on some of the big exhibitions.
“Luckily, Gabby has a very good friend in Wagga, and she was more than happy to be coming along.
“We’ve worked with local schools to have a building competition for our local kids. It would be so great to have something that kids can look forward to every year, and who knows, we could have our very own LEGO master from Wagga.”
Other famous LEGO building names include Dave Holden, who has had decades of experience creating and building scenes.
Renee said she had put a lot of time and effort into getting the exhibition up and running, and it was unlike anything else she had ever organised.
“It’s always been something that I wanted to do, but if you asked me 12 months ago if I would be doing it in August 2025, I would have said absolutely not,” she said.
“I think it’s going to be really good, and I’m hoping that the feedback from the community is going to be that as well. We are already thinking of making this a yearly event here in Wagga and we’re already looking at ways to make it bigger and better.”
Renee said the support she had received from local small businesses had made the event possible, and without them, it would not be going ahead.
“They are without a doubt the MVPs,” Renee said.
“I’m extremely proud and humbled by their generosity. I just can’t express my thanks to those few businesses.
“We’ve had Pretty Little Biscuits donate 65 of her designed biscuits for the event. Anyone who has seen her work knows they are so beautifully designed and of such great quality.
“We’ve also had Simple Pixel and Lake Village Butchery jump on as community sponsors to assure the event moves forward.”
The Bidgee Bricks Expo will take place at the Wagga RSL Club on Saturday 23 August, from 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday 24 August, from 9 am to 3 pm. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the door or online.
