55-year-old in Hay arrested after allegedly assaulting man with pool cue

A 55-year-old in the Riverina town of Hay has been charged with assault after allegedly assaulting another man with a pool cue.

Just after 4:20 pm on Sunday (23 March), emergency services were called to a licensed premises on Lachlan Street following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to the Murrumbidgee Police District were told a 25-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by the 55-year-old with a pool cue.

The younger man was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Griffith Base Hospital for further treatment.

Following inquiries, at about 5:10 pm on the same day, police arrested the 55-year-old man at a home on MacGregor Street, Hay.

He was taken to Hay Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding, common assault, and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He was refused bail and appeared at Griffith Local Court on Monday 24 March 2025.
